School Counseling Services at Jaindl

Welcome and thank you for visiting my school counseling website! The school counseling program at Jaindl is a building-wide program, which includes classroom guidance lessons, classroom meetings, career awareness and exploration, mindfulness, small group counseling, and opportunities for individual counseling.   Another key component to the school counseling program at Jaindl is our School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) program. You will find a pamphlet under my references that explains the SWPBS program in detail. All components of the program are designed to promote and maintain a sense of community and belonging at Jaindl. I have included a couple pages for your review, which provide further information on the role of the school counselor as well as descriptions of the programs that are available at Jaindl, and I do hope to add to this website as the year progresses, so please check back for updates. This is my 29th year in the school counseling profession, my 18th year in Parkland, and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve in this community. I am also Department Chairperson for Elementary School Counseling in Parkland, and I am honored to serve in this position. I am looking forward to continuing to help our students reach their full potential: Every child is a gift, just waiting to be discovered, and I intend to help our students find their "spark" and ignite with purpose! :)

Individual Counseling

School counselors meet with students individually to facilitate their growth and development through the exploration of feelings and issues that are impacting their life.  Students can request “talk time” with me by completing a form that is located in their classrooms or by asking their teacher. Parents and teachers can also refer a student for individual counseling.  As a school counselor, I do not provide therapy to students.

Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling (also known as “lunch bunch”) is a great way for students to learn together and develop a variety of skills in a small group setting. Students bring their lunch to my office where they learn skills in a fun environment! Common topics for small group are: social skills, anger management, mindfulness, coping skills and friendship.

Classroom Lessons

Large group instruction offers an opportunity to provide support to the largest number of students in the school.  This is one of my favorite things to do because I truly value the “face time” I get with all the students. Lessons presented are developmentally appropriate for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.  Topics include: conflict resolution, managing our emotions, anti bullying, including others, various social skills, mindfulness and career exploration.
